Information You Send Directly
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search box is sent to the outside provider that supplies results. Lancaster Residents Directory does not retain a copy of those search terms on its own servers. When a visitor writes to us, the information in that message is used to respond to the inquiry.
Automatically Collected Details
Like most hosted services, the site may receive ordinary server-log information such as an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and access time. We use aggregate information to maintain the service and understand general readership. Cookies or related tools may support basic analytics and, where applicable, advertising measurement.
How Limited Data Is Used
Data is used to operate the service, respond to messages, diagnose technical problems, measure traffic, and improve the reference material. We do not sell visitor lists or create individual visitor profiles from ordinary browsing activity.
Other Sites and Search Providers
Links may lead to Erie County, New York State, library, archive, and outside search-provider resources. Their own privacy notices govern information submitted on those services. Sponsored results are likewise provided through a separate company, which controls the data practices for its result service.
Service Providers and Legal Requests
Hosting and technical-service providers may process server logs for the operation of the site. Analytics or advertising partners can receive the automatic information described above. We disclose information when required by valid legal process and otherwise only as described in this policy.
Security and Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for as long as needed for the purposes described here. Because Lancaster Residents Directory does not offer accounts, it does not maintain a visitor password or profile through the site.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If a visitor believes a minor sent us personal information, contact us and we will remove what we can locate.
Access, Correction, and Deletion Requests
New York did not have a general enacted consumer data-broker deletion or universal opt-out statute verified for this project. Visitors may still ask about personal information that Lancaster Residents Directory itself holds by using the Contact page. Because the site keeps little information, the request normally concerns a contact message or server log. Government-held public records are different: New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, §§84-90, governs agency access, while vital-record access is limited by Public Health Law §§4173-4174 and 10 NYCRR §35.5. Requests to correct or remove a government record must go to the custodian that created it.
Policy Revisions
If this policy changes, the revised version will appear here. Continuing to use the service after publication of a revision means acceptance of the updated policy.
